Sygnature Discovery
Data Consolidation, Transformation
and Migration to Oracle NetSuite

Client Overview
Sygnature Discovery is a drug discovery company which supports biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to deliver better drugs to patients with unmet medical needs. Backed by private equity and committed to scalable growth, Sygnature has made several strategic acquisitions to expand its capabilities and geographic footprint.
To unify operations across its growing portfolio of companies, including recent acquisitions such as recently acquired SB Drug Discovery and Nuchem Sciences, Sygnature undertook a complex data migration and consolidation project, transitioning to Oracle NetSuite, a best-of-breed cloud-based ERP platform.
This move enables efficient management of business development, finance and project functions through a single platform while streamlining future integrations and supporting long-term scalability.
They needed to migrate over 100 datasets, including static and transactional datasets from legacy systems, as well as configuration data from various databases and Excel spreadsheets. This migration encompassed both organizational and project-related data and followed a specific order of ingestion into NetSuite.
The migrated data was designed to align with templates already established in the new NetSuite environment.
Additionally, a key requirement was to develop a reusable migration framework and processes which could efficiently and consistently support future acquisition integrations with the centralized ERP platform.

Client Challenges
Data migration from
multiple sources
Sygnature needed a full and complete dataset on NetSuite, yet their legacy data required significant validation and cleansing. This required the team to manually prepare CSV files for mapped or final data loads from varying sources and upload them individually into
Oracle NetSuite.
To preserve the correct relationships between entities such as customers and projects, data uploads had to be carefully staged. Additionally, the system relied on NetSuite to generate unique IDs for each entity. These constraints added complexity, heightened the risk of data errors and ultimately slowed the process, increasing the likelihood of project delays.
Unaligned data
Relationships between data entities were not inherently maintained due to data being stored in different formats across multiple systems, along with high levels of Redundant, Obsolete or Trivial (ROT) data. As a result, significant manual effort was required to identify and establish these relationships across various file formats and structures, ensuring data alignment and
proper utilization.
Proventeq's Solution
Discovery workshop
To fully understand the data Sygnature held, where it was located and what would need to be migrated, we organized a data workshop which allowed a deep dive into their vast, scattered data holdings so a plan could be designed to clean their library of duplicates and any redundant data sets. The outcomes of which were a data strategy and data migration plan.
Streamlining data uploads
Proventeq created client-specific data templates which could be loaded onto NetSuite as a one-click solution using Azure Data Factory, which allowed the project team to create, schedule, move and transform data, generating all respective input files, so iterations in loading them were reduced. The final product was much smoother and manual efforts were reduced drastically.
Ensuring data alignment
To help align the data, we implemented a relationship between various datasets in a staging database using SQL Views. While not a universal solution, this significantly reduced the time and effort needed to obtain source data in a specific file format from the client, which greatly improved the process.
The Results
Clean unified data system
Sygnature Discovery successfully consolidated data from various legacy systems into a single, clean and accurate Oracle NetSuite platform. This process eliminated ROT data, improving data quality and enabling more effective system usage.
Reduced migration time
By implementing a specialized data pipeline, Proventeq significantly reduced the data migration time from an estimated two weeks to just two days, representing a 700% reduction in time. This shift from manual uploads to automated processes improved efficiency and accuracy.
Productivity and cost savings
The streamlined migration process enabled Sygnature Discovery to upload data more efficiently, reducing the risk of errors and the need for extensive manual effort. These efficiencies led to significant cost savings by eliminating expenses tied to legacy systems, excess licensing and maintenance, as well as reducing staff time required for data tasks.

Minimized disruption to business-as-usual
The automated migration process was executed in parallel with ongoing business operations. Iterative testing ensured minimal disruption, allowing staff to focus on their primary responsibilities while the transition progressed smoothly in the background.
Collaborative low risk execution
A shared responsibility model for data migration reduced risks and increased accountability. The migration process was carefully planned and executed using a structured runbook, allowing stakeholders to follow scheduled activities and maintain visibility into the transition.
Scalable repeatable framework
The migration framework developed accelerated the SB Discovery and Nuchem integration projects. This has proved effective for future use, setting the foundation for repeatable processes in future acquisitions and enabling more seamless transitions.
