What is Content Migration?
Content Migration is the process of moving documents, web pages and other information from one system to another. This data may be structured – such as a file system or an existing ECM like SharePoint – or it may be unstructured, like generic web pages.
The target system is usually structured, so the content needs to be re-shaped. This includes any extra data – such as attributes, fields, internet tags, document properties – collectively known as metadata.
Content migration involves creating rules that apply to specific types of content. These rules define how data should be broken down into smaller content fields and then rebuilt to suit the new system.
Rules can also be created to generate brand new metadata. This is very important when it comes to enhancing your data, for example for Enterprise Search.
